How Kamra makes money
If the software is free, what's the catch? There isn't one, and we would rather show you than ask you to trust us. Kamra is built by HeyKoala (Koala AI Solutions Private Limited). Here is every way we earn.
We set it up, move your data and change what you need
Hotels and groups pay us for go-live: installation on the host they choose, data migration from their old PMS, training, custom fields, reports and integrations, plus an annual support contract (AMC). Every job is a fixed quote. The work belongs to you. Get a quote.
HeyKoala for hotels that want AI working for them
Hotels that want AI to answer guest calls and WhatsApp, quote and book rooms, and handle requests during the stay use our product, HeyKoala. It works alongside Kamra. It's a separate paid product: optional, and Kamra never pushes it.
Partners pay to be listed for their market
Implementers and agencies who deliver Kamra go-lives can be listed as the partner for their country or region. Listed partners receive that market's enquiries first, for an annual listing fee. Certification itself is earned by a successful go-live, not sold. Become a partner.
Companies that rely on Kamra fund its development
Hotel groups, hosting providers and technology companies that depend on Kamra, or want their name next to it, sponsor the project. Sponsorship pays for maintainers, releases and security work. It never buys control of the roadmap or a closed feature. Sponsor Kamra.
What we will never charge for
- Rooms or users. A bigger hotel needs a bigger server, not a bigger licence.
- Features. Every feature in the open-source release is in every install.
- Your data. Export everything, any time, free.
- API access. The API, webhooks and MCP tools are available on day one, with no interface fee.
These are written into the Kamra Open Pledge.
On the roadmap: an enterprise edition
We plan to offer an enterprise edition for groups and chains that want more: deeper customisation, AI built into the PMS, and services we run for you. It will be a paid licence on top of open-source Kamra. The open edition stays complete and free; we won't move existing features behind the enterprise licence.

Why this model works
It's the same model that made WordPress, Linux and ERPNext last: the software is shared, and money comes from the people and services around it. Because Kamra is AGPL-3.0, it stays open even if we change our minds or disappear. You are never locked in, not even to us.
Money questions, straight answers
How does Kamra make money if the software is free?
Four ways: sponsorship from companies that rely on Kamra; annual listing fees from implementation partners listed for their market; custom implementation (go-live, migration, customisation and annual support) on a fixed quote; and AI automation for hotels through HeyKoala (heykoala.ai). The software itself is never charged for.
Who builds Kamra?
HeyKoala (Koala AI Solutions Private Limited, Bangalore, India), which also builds AI for hotels at heykoala.ai. The code is public on GitHub under AGPL-3.0, and contributions are welcome.
Will Kamra ever start charging per room or lock features?
No. We will not charge for rooms, users, features, data export or API access. A planned enterprise edition adds to open-source Kamra; it won't move existing features behind a licence. And because Kamra is AGPL-3.0, the open code stays open regardless.
What is the Kamra partner listing fee?
Implementers and agencies who deliver Kamra go-lives can be listed as the partner for their market and receive that market's enquiries first, for an annual listing fee. Certification is earned by a successful go-live, not sold. Apply at https://kamrapms.com/partners/
Do I need HeyKoala to use Kamra?
No. Kamra is a complete PMS on its own. HeyKoala is a separate paid product for hotels that want AI answering guest calls and WhatsApp, quoting and booking rooms, and handling requests during the stay.
How can a company sponsor Kamra?
Write to [email protected]. Sponsorship funds maintainers, releases and security work; it never buys control of the roadmap or a closed feature.
