Your hotel should run on software you can change.
Most hotels can't add a field, connect a tool or let AI in without asking their vendor. Kamra is open source, so you own it, you shape it, and AI works for you, not for the vendor.
A space no PMS occupied
Hotel software competed on the same two things for twenty years: closed code and per-room rent. AI turned that into a third fight over who controls the assistant. We didn't join it. Kamra sits where open source and agent-native meet.
- Per-room and per-user licence fees
- Paid interfaces and API gates
- Data held hostage at renewal
- Dependence on one vendor for every change
- Training time on dated screens
- Cost of switching and leaving
- Data ownership and residency choice
- Privacy you can inspect
- Speed of change, with AI coding tools
- Governed MCP tools for AI agents
- A public pledge on pricing and openness
- A partner economy around an open PMS
Own it. Change it. Plug AI in.
Yours, not rented
No licence fee and no per-room rent. Your data sits on a server you choose, in the country you choose, and leaves with you whenever you like.
Your process, your system
Your IT person or a local developer, with AI help, can add a field, a report, a workflow or an integration in a day. No feature-request queue.
AI that works safely
Every operation is a governed tool over MCP. Your AI acts with a staff member's permissions, every action is logged, and prices and taxes always come from code.
What we kept seeing
Hotel after hotel told us the same thing: they wanted AI to answer guests and take routine work off their staff, and their PMS wouldn't let anything in. Outdated screens, no API, no customisation, a support ticket for every small change. We met them while building AI for hotels at HeyKoala.
Then AI coding tools changed who can build software. A hotel's own team can now build what it needs, if the system underneath is open. So we built one, and gave it away.
An option, not a crusade
Many PMS products are good, and many hotels are well served by them. We are not here to tear anyone down. We are here so the next 100,000 hotels, chains, resorts, independent boutiques, short-term rental companies and people who love to host have an open option.

For builders and contributors
Kamra is a Frappe app with a REST API, outbound webhooks and an MCP server. Build extensions and agents on it, implement it for hotels and keep the fee, or help write the next country pack. Start contributing or become a partner.
What comes next
An enterprise edition is on our roadmap for groups that want deeper customisation and AI built into the PMS. It adds to open-source Kamra; it never takes away. Need more customisation today, or want to hear about enterprise first? Talk to us.

Why Kamra, answered
Why is Kamra PMS open source?
Because most hotels are stuck on outdated, closed software with no API, no extensions and no room to customise. With AI coding agents, a hotel's own team or a local agency can now change software themselves, if it is open. Kamra gives hotels freedom to choose, ownership of their data, extensibility, readiness for AI over MCP, and no licence cost. More: https://kamrapms.com/why-kamra/
Is Kamra really free? What's the catch?
Kamra is free under AGPL-3.0: no per-room fee, no per-user fee, no feature gates. You pay for a server, and for help only if you want it. HeyKoala, the company behind Kamra, earns from sponsorships, partner listing fees, custom implementations and AI automation. Details: https://kamrapms.com/how-kamra-makes-money/
Who owns my hotel's data on Kamra?
You do. Kamra runs on a server you choose (your own, a cloud region you pick, or Frappe Cloud), so you decide where guest and financial data lives. You can export everything at any time, free.
Can I customise Kamra or build on it?
Yes. Kamra is a Frappe app with a REST API, outbound webhooks and an MCP server. You, your IT team, an agency or an AI coding agent can add fields, reports, workflows and integrations without asking us or paying an interface fee.
Is Kamra ready for AI agents?
Yes. Every operation is exposed as a governed tool over MCP (Model Context Protocol). Your own AI acts with a staff member's permissions, every action is logged, and prices and taxes always come from code, never from the model.
Is Kamra against other PMS vendors?
No. Many PMS products are good. Kamra exists so that the next 100,000 hotels, chains, resorts, independent boutiques, short-term rental companies and hosts have an open option alongside the closed ones.
Will there be an enterprise edition of Kamra?
An enterprise edition is on the roadmap for groups that want deeper customisation, AI built into the PMS and services run for them. Open-source Kamra stays open and complete. To discuss customisation or enterprise, write to [email protected].
